July is Anti-Boredom Month, and for good reason. School's now been out long enough that children have played all their video games, jumped on the trampoline, swam in the pool and are now whining about boredom to their parents. It can be equally easy to fall into a rut in your assisted living community and let the heat of summer lull you into inactivity and boredom.
Luckily, Bethesda Gardens has a calendar full of enjoyable activities to keep you busy this summer, both here in the community and in the wider Arlington and DFW area. Let this list be your guide back to a fulfilling and fun-filled summer.
Waiting on Wednesdays
Wednesdays are transportation days at Bethesda Gardens, and that means the bus is available to take you and your friends out on the town. Enjoy the air conditioning while you get your steps in at nearby Parks Mall, and don’t forget to indulge in a treat at Auntie Anne’s or Cinnabon. Spice up your weekly grocery shopping trip by engaging in a silly scavenger hunt at the grocery store, or enjoy a brief break when the bus pulls over at the park before the full heat of the day hits. This weekly field trip opportunity gives you the chance to get out, run errands, stretch your legs and have a bit of fun.
Fridays Out at Lunch
While we offer fabulous food here in the community and the ability to prepare your own yummy meals, there’s nothing quite like enjoying lunch out with your friends. This July, we’ll be visiting world-famous barbecue joint, Angelo’s, on the first Friday of the month so you can indulge in some of the best meats and sauces around. On the third Friday, join us at Cheddar’s to take advantage of a full menu of American fare that is equal parts filling and scrumptious. Have a request for the restaurants we visit in upcoming months or want to plan a special outing that’s not yet on the calendar? Talk to our staff, and we’ll see what we can arrange.
Monday Morning Studies
While you may already dedicate Sundays to your faith and worship, you can continue learning on Mondays with our 10 a.m. Journey Thru the Bible class. No matter your degree of Biblical knowledge, this gathering is sure to provide you with additional insight and knowledge while giving you conversation starters to use with your friends the rest of the week. Remember that you can also bust boredom later in the week by participating in Devotions with Al or by organizing your own Biblical studies and devotions with your friends.
Everyday Boredom Busters
You don’t have to wait for specific days of the week or events to bust boredom. Our activity room and gathering lounges have books, games and TVs available, and these rooms are open to our residents and your visitors. Just grab the nearest staff member if you’re looking for something in particular and need help finding it. We’re here to ensure you’re living your best boredom-free life.
This summer, challenge yourself to meet a new neighbor, try a new game or pick up a new book every time you worry that boredom could be taking over. Before you know it, you’ll have such a long list of activities you want to tackle that boredom will be just another word in the dictionary.
